  • Homemade electric generator (hand driven). Plans?

Hi guys, Im writing for advice/links/plans etc for a home made generator which is hand driven.

Ive been asked to teach science privately to a pupil with an emphasis on experiments. Im really happy about the opportunity - the student comes from an very very elite background, so i figure we teach him about lifters/tesla coils/slayer exciter circuits, make him demonstrate them to parents and other elite students at his very very expensive school etc etc........and break the system down from within

Ive started at the beginning - simple EM motor demonstrated with neo, 1AA and some solder wire. But i wanna build a generator with him next week (as its the opposite of a motor) - preferably hand driven. Problem is - ive never done this before.

    Any ideas? Plans? Links?

The rest will be no probs....lifter/exciter/and tesla coil ive already done, so should go OK. But ill be making the guy wind his own coils - thats for sure. More satisfying in my opinion

Thanks for all the links guys - i really really appreciate all the help.

I love the site that wings posted with the wooden box, with coils wrapped round, and rotating magnet inside - simple but effective demonstration of the principle. Perfect for the kid to build. And good fun for me also!
