wrapping multi layer coil?

I don't have any pictures at this time, but i may once i get some spools of magnet wire.

This question deals with all coils in general, generator and electromagnet

I understand the concept of the higher ammount of coils present, the better the technology will be to an extent.

Not factoring in input vs gain, i.e. so many coils that ive increased the resistance too much for my magnets to induce any usefull output.

My question is if i had a coil and i began wrapping from left side all the way to the right side, how would i start the next coil?

Should i run a straight shot (No coils) back to the left side and then coil to the right again.

The other option is to coil from left to right, then coil right to left, and so on.

I have read mixed opinions on the internet and i was hoping i could find an answer.
