With its economy clocking at almost 9% growth, India is a country that is furiously gobbling energy. Which makes it inevitable that there will be serious demand-supply gaps, and given than almost all of India's transport fuels is fossil-bsed and about 705 of its power is from coal+natural gas, the country not surprisingly is looking at a whole host of ways to make itself more secure in energy supplies (you can get to know more about this from this article on India's Energy Security).
One can accept India's urgent efforts to find new sources of fossil fuels, but is the country being equally desperate in developing renewable sources of energy? I think it is not doing a bad job, going by its efforts in solar energy through its National Solar Mission. But I am not so sure that its efforts in other RE sources - biofuels, developing small hydro etc., are anywhere near as good. What are your thoughts?
