  • ss tesla w/ ignition coil

thought i start a new thread.. cause i will be doing more with this circuit..
i'll post a schematic later.. once i get it made..
warning.. .. low freq high voltage.. it hurts

    LOL, Hi Kooler

You don't know how many times I've been zapped with an ignition coil. I owned an auto repair shop for 15 years. I always thought about hooking a pulsing circuit up to a GM control mudule and coils and having 6 coils sparking all at the same time.

      hi.. mark
i'm also a shop owner and the gm control module only works in the low hz and can only handle one coil..
below i made a schematic.. oh.. you wouldn't want a hit from this coil..
      1 cm is 30,000 volts
the spark on the coil was 5.5 cm
and the one that got me was 11.4 cm

        @ kooler

I am glad you started a new thread. I bought a RAM 1500 ignition coil. I hope I will not short it out right away. I will post my results here.

i bought me some more stuff today to try on this circuit..
take a week to get here..
i also got me somethings to mod a pnp/npn circuit..
took me a while to firgure that circuit out.. (how to make it better)
i found me some 300 volt pnp transistors.. (cheap)

            @ all

I bought some electronic goldmine flybacks for $4 each. They look good. They light neons and fluorescents. But, NO SPARKS. Junk.

              Hi Lads!

How do i stop getting zapped by my flyback? The zap is far more painful than my 30KV power supply (cockroft walton) and is starting to get on my nerves! It always seems to take me unawares as i think the flyback is completely discharged (ive shorted the output wires), so i play with the HV output leads and think its all ok, and then bang and my bones are shaking....

Should i be keeping one hand in my pocket? will that work? It always seems to rock me when both my hands are in dangerous places.

Cheers guys - looking forward to your next circuits. Thanks for sharing.

about all dc flybacks have a built in cap..
if you hook a wire wrong you can charge the cap as you run the transformer..
but you will know if you get a wire wrong because it will arc the pins some were..

                  @ Seth

None of my flybacks are charged when I turn off the power. I do not think it is normal for them to hold a charge.

                  @ all

I have not given up on the goldmine flyback. It will make sparks if hooked up to the right pins but does not seem to be as good as my old flyback. Still evaluating. More updates later.

Does anybody knows how to measure length of wire inside car ignition coil ?
                    Of coruse without dismantling it.

I made a video with the electronic goldmine flyback. It does not seem to have as much output current as a normal color TV flyback. But it seems to produce as much output voltage.

EDIT: schematic has 9 volt battery, but should have been 12 volt battery.

xenon tubes using flyback transformer with 9 volts.

                          good video ..
it gives off alot of light.. thru the xenon tubes..
i bought one of those goldmine flybacks.. and then you said they were no good so i might play with it .. if i ever get it.. but i also got one of those iron core highvoltage transformers coming also.. i was going to use it in my sr193 build..
but realy i just like HV..
i hoping i can get a new place to play with HV next year cuz the metal table i got now gets me shocked to much..
i have learned alot trying to build sweet's devices which i think are junk..
but i learned alot about how transformers interact with each other..
once i get my new stuff i'll make some new video's

The electronic goldmine flyback seems to work better at 6 volts than it does at 12 volts.

EDIT: video replaced with new version

did you catch the current draw from the 6 volt battery..
that looks like a really good spark for 6 vdc..
