i done some tests awhile back and the diode and cap are not needed till you reach 6 volts and more.. what i was trying to do was to add a neg volt to the pos but came to a different matter once hit 9 volts..
i was playing with my flyback from goldmine and think i will try your hook up diagram you got and video of something soon..

I did a quick test of circuit with just a 50 ohm resistor and it seems to work great up to at least 12 volts in.

This shows the performance with a capacitor added. I think it works better than with just the resistor.

Note - the capacitor reduces the output voltage (but I think it also increases the output current). V(out) = 3.4KV with capacitor and 4.8KV without capacitor.

yeah that is the reason i had the cap in there.. see i was charging my output cap with this type circuit..
and i noticed that the input circuit would charge my cap for faster discharges.. with the cap on the base to neg and the diode helped also..
here soon i am going to clear coat the crap out of my mot and run this circuit thru for a video soon.. it is alot kooler than the car coil i done.. haha

I tried using the xenon tube as a spark gap and it seems to work.

well i got all my wires soldered on my flyback coil from goldmine and .. , ..
the secondary is junk on my coil..
man was i mad..
this is the 23rd item i have bought from goldmine that was junk..
it cost more in shipping to return it than it is worth..
i might retire for a little while..
between the doctor visits and life.. i don't have the motivation and energy no more..
intill next time..

Take care friend , stop buying stuff anyway you said it its junk , just salvage it Lord will provide the rest .

I found PC screen and Tv screen real cool the degaussing coil long copper wire , a bit of tape over it but quite easy to access . Almost forgot Flybacks .
