flywheel effect !!!... interesting. There has to be a trade off between mass, torque and rpm. More mass should give a flywheel effect, but there is only a relatively small amount of energy to accelerate the rotation (and extra mass

Would double stacking increase the magnetic field strength and so have a bearing on distance to coil ?

I will try that when I finish the experiment I am on in a few days.

Took the advice and added some large washers in between the magnets (so 18 washers weighing 806g in total).

Before washers and with magnets - free rotation of 9.5 minutes. After adding the mass, free rotation of 12 minutes !!

Acceleration was slower, but still settled at the same rpm but with a lower input current.

Only problem now ... big short ... bang ... need to fix LOL

thought I would rebuild a bit 'bigger': Trifilar with my MJL21194's ... took hours to work out that I had wound the coil the wrong way !!

Very goo though. Took my source battery from 12.54 down to 10.5 (it was about 80% charged and 44AH, and old)... so emptied it. Raised my Big old dead 90AH battery from 9.96 to 12+ ... settling back down to circa 12) in 7 hours 40 mins. Voltage spikes looked around 200V, 2 big pulses per magnet and a rotation speed of 120 (instead of the 90ish I was getting).

One other problem was the variable resistor just was not man enough for the current and faulted... so have 25 Ohms off the trigger into two 8 ohms (each feeding a transistor). Current measured using my inductive reader 195ma... but I suspect it was higher in peak.

Not worrying too much about that at the moment (until I get some high power variables). Just put source on charge ready for tomorrows fun... and then we will see what kind of load I can get.

These MJL's are great .. very sharp on-off... not as twitchy as TIP31C's (TIP41C's were better but neither handles spikes well).

Having mucked about as much as seems useful with my basic set-up ... I sketched out a replacement to hold 3 coils with the ability to add more if I wanted.

As you can see from the pics below, by basic was an a-frame hack up with a coil underneath and cct in wire strip form. The mk 2 version is somewhat more robust, and when I have put the circuits onto board and mounted the batteries should be pretty neat.

One thing I did notice was that when I thought I was drawing 230ma it was 2.3 A .. no wonder my 44AH source emptied overnight !

Now I have 3 coils: my original bifilar running on a TIP41C, and two tri-filars running on MJL21194's. Takes approx 1A now (must get some power-pots), but mu first 90AH battery is ready for a load. It kept collapsing voltage as it desulphated but is holding at 12.5 (from about 10V).

Got the 2nt one on with a 44AH battery as source (also being charged by mains charger) to cheat.... don't care about the power in.. just conditioning at the moment.

I have arranged the MK2 so (when I wire the switches in), I can experiment with cutting coils, moving the trigger plane so I can look at the virtual south and generally have fun.

New to SSG

Hello Everyone,

I am new to this forum and kinda new to the SSG. I just received two Bedini
SSG kits last week. One was the advanced SSG kit, and the other was the
5 inch fan kit. Both are more complex than I expected. Also have been looking at the yahoo monopole group. That version is far simpler than what I have. I probably should have bought the parts locally and started with that setup to begin with instead. The first radiant charger I constructed was the Lidmotor/Imhotep relay oscilator and have been having some good results with that. It seems to be restoring lead acid batteries that I had thought were long gone.Right now I am going slowly with the fan motor kit. Do not know if this of any interest to anyone, but I sure get a lot out your posts and want to learn more.
