    Any wire or metal is good for coils;
    - for winding - any metal; it only needs to conduct electricity.
    - for core - any metal; but those attracted to magnet is better

Best coil wire (for common people like us) Copper with Aluminum in second place. Best core is Carbon.

CO2 welding wire are of many kinds - and they all conduct electricity. We are using mild steel, 304 & 316 stainless steel, aluminum and copper; thus the answer remains: Yes they are all good for coil winding.

    BUT: They are not insulated.
So you will need to work around that with various options.
Therefore we need to find NEW ways, NEW experiments and NEW lines of thoughts.

        Motor Field Cores

        Hi Aromaz

Would you reccomend carbon for motor field cores / generator coils?

        Regards

        John

some ideas for insulating bare wire

I tried wax but it didn't work as desired, what are some other options that might work to cover bare wire for coils, thanks in advance.

In the old days cotton, mica sheets or a mica slurry was used. There is liquid tape available at most hardware stores and on the internet.

                how it should be made

should I wind the coil and then immerse it in liquid tape or immerse the the wire in the tape and after leaving it to dry out wind it?

Depends on the type of coil. If the wire itself needs to be insulated then your better off buying insulated wire. If your using magnet wire its already insulated. If the copper wire itself doesnt need insulation then you would just paste it on top. If you need a specific dielectric insulation then thats a different matter. For plain insulation from electric shock and moisture the liquid tape will work.

I managed to dismantle a motor and picked its wire

but the wire may be damaged at some point so I will re insulate all of it. I tried wax but it cracks, I will try varnish and liquid tape next.

                      circuit board lacquer

When I built a tesla coil, I used circuit board lacquer. It has great insulation properties. The wire I used was from a manufacturer of enameled copper wire for transformers. I once worked for a company that built ballast for HID lighting and on some occasions, I was required to pick up some bobbins for certain jobs. I kept the resource and had purchased 47 km of .1 gauge wire, I cant remember the price, but it was cheap.
