  • How about you people show (off) your skills?

    Hi,

I have seen some people on the forum who are capable of manufactuing amazing pieces and mechanisms. Some of you do it in no time.

I think that it would be very interesting if those of you with the skills could film you from time to time while you are working at it so those of us without experience can learn how you do it.

We would see what machinery you use and how you use it.

Please make videos so we too can learn the craft.

    Thanks.

    Good thought

There are some impressive building skills abound here

Wish I had a garage to set up some proper tools but I am confined to a small workshop in a basement. I am quite lucky still though and manage to get by just requires more set up and take down time.

Not sure I have any great skills.. just re-learning how to experiment ...

Just an idea. I wound a multiwire coil yesterday and I did not want the wires separating much on the coil as seems to happen. I fed them though a biro with the inner bit removed. Hold the end as a pointer close to the coil and hey presto... nice neat coil.... and no expensive winder, spools on a rope feeding through the dismantled pen and the coil being driven by a high torque low speed cordless screwdriver

Can you make a video of it?

The idea is learning by watching.
Reading explanations on how to do things leaves much to the imagination and to be desired. Lenguage is to imprecise for 3d descriptions.

mmmhh.. I have a video camer (old) and need to figure out how to get a film off (dont have firewire on my new computer or laptop). Probably won't wind another coil till later in the year as I need to build the new rig first - just about worked out what I want to do. I will however endevour to botch some footage up when I do.

Not the most dazzling of images ..s ... low light and a dodgy camera. Hopefully you get the idea clear enough.

              Faramog thanks for the image.

Related to coils I found this couple of videos which are an example of the things that the newbes want to see in order to learn how things can be done:

part 1 coils: YouTube - How to make a coil for a wind turbine generator.wmv

part 2 stator: YouTube - Building the stator for my V.A.W.T.

part 3 rotor: YouTube - How I built the Rotor.wmv

part 4 turbine: YouTube - How I built my first V.A.W.T. Vertical Axis Wind Turbine
