Hi .I have been thinking about using fluorescent and ambient light to illuminate a solar panal for a while utilising the lights we all use at night to run some low power circuits and eventually another fluorescent tube.
After giving it some thought I decided on a design which was long and thin and could be magnetically attached to an existing fluorescent light tube housing, directly above the tube. This allows you to remove the panal during daylight hours and replace at night
I found some suitable solar cells to construct the panal in my local pound shop so I built my first prototype yesterday to see if the idea was worth pursuing and I was quite pleased at how it worked out.It will power low power circuits like pendulums and pulse motors and it even ran my Slayer exciter weakly but the cells I have used to build the panal are very low quality and with better cells and more of them so the entire lengh of the fluorescent tube housing is covered then it may be possible to run a slayer exciter to power another tube or leds.
This design utilises light which is going up and without reflectors is wasted light so it makes sence to use it for something useful like powering low power circuits or even maybe charging a mobile phone. Here is a vid of my experiment.I would be pleased to here what you think and any thoughts you have on improoving the design and low power circuits which could compliment it.Jonny
