  • In the Uk, you are allowed to make up to 2500 litres of fuel per year for personal use without any tax liability. This is normally biodiesel made from wvo but the legislation does not exclude other home made fuels such as diesel from plastic.
In Ireland where I live it is legal to make your own fuel but the liability to pay 44 cents per litre tax starts with the first litre and payment come due after 1000 litres.

      Hello Imakebiodiesel ;
After paying 44 cents per ltr is it still viable to sell plastic/WMO diesel ?

Did U manage to manage to blend plastic-diesel with WVO-diesel ???

      • refractory bricks

so i am looking to build bigger unit and have found info that may help people

there are 2 types of bricks:
some that only insulation to keep heat in.
some serve to carry heat to even heat the kiln.
        some do both.

i found this on internet - show some info on bricks
Kiln Building Refractory Bricks and Insulating Firebrick from Sheffield Pottery Ceramic Supply
you can click on hard bricks or soft bricks -

i talked to a guy and apparently - they have arch 1 - arch 2 - arch 3 - which are pre-cut at certain angles and they have a formula book which for any diameter circle you can use the arch bricks along with straights to achieve any circle.

so you dont have to cut them. this may save some time and effort on peoples part.

there is also a cement -type refractory that you can add water and have it set into a form.

        • Sorry for the delay
Actually I could not take any more trial with My Baby due to some problems, I have to move same day.
My frnd informed they along with pale yellow gasoline there was deep wine color oil got collected in condensor vessel with was about half liter and about 1.5 kgs of material was left inside the reactor as I swicthed it off.
          so result are:
about 1 lit of Gasoline (Pale Yellow) see Photo
about 0.5 lit of Furnace Oil (Dep Wine Color)
about 1.5 Kgs of material left behind.
total feed material was about 5 kgs.
total heating time about 8 hrs.
max temp reached about 270 deg.
material feed was PP-HDPE mix I dont know the ratio as it was scrap which was grinded.

            dear jetijs,

very firstly, i m sorry, as i will be taking your 5 mins.for this long email.

I m Ashish Pandya, From India. By profession I am a computer engineer, with a small sw firm, where I have developed softwares for - FOREX and other financial markets.

however, since a couple of years, I am more into being a LIFE COACH, where i guide everyone with the laws of spirituality and yog. for free. i have had remained a BIG TIME hit in this thing.. where i was truly able to spread the msg of spirituality to lakhs of public. i educated about 1-2 lakhs of people, all at my costs. thanks to the master to select me for this divine work. however...

i come direct to the point now...

while taking lectures all over my country india - i have found that - there is a big BIG mass of public, below middle class lliving standard. there is a big BIG amount -of youth - who wants to do something - but has no guidance. no empowerment. i agree when they say -- we need work, we need something to nourish our family.. and not the spiritual laws. .. .. with a deep pain in my heart, i have to agree with this point.

            hence..

            1) i want to give something to this educated youth of my country-- who is willing to work -- i want to give them some source of work - which can generate them indian currency ( INR ) or 8-10K per month.

            2) some concept related to the PRODUCTIOn has to be given.

            3) projects under my radar are :

a>>>cultivation of SPIRULINA ( for making the spirulina powder priced at INR 1000-3000 per kg ) -- the problem is -- people dont have enuf land also. - i thought of making a stacked multi layer strucutre at the roof of the house -- or may be taking the concept inside the house, making a photo bioreactor -- big drums -- with LED lightinngs etc.. inside house. ) -- i saw yr posts.. and i find that you have made a good amount of research in this. please suggest me.. is this project suitable to allow a person to make INR 8-10K ( USD 200 only ) per month ? how effective woud be artificial light instead of sunlight. and yes.. its spirulina algae, and not teh algae.. used for bio diesel. i m working on spirulina powder concept... plz. plz.. give me your sincere and true feedbacks regarding this project.

b>>>making of diesel from waste. be it plastic, tyres or biomass or whatever. i personall feel this wud be more feasible to be taken to the retail end. i want your sincere feedbacks for this project. if you say, i come to your place ( if i get visa to your country ) to take the guidance. i think this would be nice, to make 50-100 liter of diesel from 100 kg of plasstics. our country has big waste. same case with bio mass. we can give both options.

being a business opportunity for you -- it would be just tremendous..

take my basic concept -- i want to make -- that person SELF RELIANT -- who is educated - but is unemployed - who has some indoor land of 500 sq. feet. -- and who is really messed up in life..

i myself am a science savvy. was a fan of quantum physics once .. but got landed to spiritual scinece, which has all the answers, unanswered by quantum physics but i feel -- there is no use of technology..unless and until it reaces.. to the most grounded person.

i would be highly delighted to have your comments, guidance in reply of this comment.

              Dear Mr. Ashish....
Let God bless everyone n start from me... anyways,
As you told you have two concept with you.
Artificial farming and Diesel from Waste.
both are very good concepts but imagine if everyone start producing Diesel from waste so it will no more be priced item and in due cause price for waste will be too high which is already on upward trend, so after that other cheep substiute will be used like PVC which is not recomended as it produce Dioxin which can cause Cancer (God save the world).
Now coming to Artificial Farming, I think this is the right answer for all the problems as in future there will be no land for agricultural use and water another big crises and above all this world demands are ever increasing.
so my opiniun to go for developing new methods for low cost easy and reliable Artificial Farming.

              • Kris3033, it looks like you did not get to a high enough temperature. At 270C only the lightest most volatile vapours would make it to the condenser, hence the amount left in the reactor. try again at 380C and you will get higher yield and better fuel,
Alec, I tried a batch using your catalyst, broken brick material and got a result the same as yours. A very light, volatile fuel like petrol. In fact put it into my two stroke engined mower and it worked perfectly. Did you find the fuel darkened a little over the first couple of days?
Asad, the 44 cent tax only applies if you make fuel for personal use. A much higher tax applies if you want to sell your fuel. You must also obtain permission from the EPA ( difficult), the health and safety agency (expensive) and get planning permission from your county council ( nearly impossible).
I have not been able to try the mixture you suggested because I have only ever made 1/2 a litre of diesel from wmo. It turned black after a week and I lost interest in wmo.

yes I colud not reach the 380 temp as I didnt have time to insulate it properly and more over I thing my Heater rating was also low I used about 2 heaters of 1KW each. and Reflector chember was completly empty with out heating.
Next time I will try with all Insulations and good condensor set up.

"Alec, I tried a batch using your catalyst, broken brick material and got a result the same as yours."
I now use soil (clods) and 20% agricultural lime powder in my catalyst with the same result.
It's interesting that it take a lot of fuel production before the catalyst start to work.
No, the color don't change much, it turn Brandy or sweet white wine color after a few weeks.
My average weight is 800g per liter. That mean it is diesel and petrol combine.
I am now working to find a fix for that.

                    • price of raws

                      hi,

                      thanks kris for the opinion.

                      1) when i take to spirulina farming, and giving the retail sector a big boom -- my problem is that, how do i keep a QC on all the spirulina produced through out. how do i make sure, that no one makes a FAKE GREEN POWDER and sell it in the name of spirulina.

                      2) doing artificial cultivation for other products, doesnt get that cost effective. or may be there is no crop to do be priced that margin.

                      3) a general question to all.. what is the price of usable - waste plastic or WVO. and is it available in bulk ? if also the msg of making renewable diesel from plastics -- spreads -- just see teh amount of waste plastic available in market.. at least in india.. its REALLY HEAVY.

kindly comment guys.. give me something.. that can be given to the retail sector.. to work out. india is a big giant .. where the possibilites remain in INDIVIDUAL works and not in a team.

                      thanks,
                      ashish.

                      • Hi paninfosys,
I would reccomend you to grow chlorella vulgaris algae. It can be used as food or turned into fuel, but it is far more valuable as food as it costs around 100$ per kg. It grows pretty fast and not much work must be invested, just patience. All you need is heat and light and I thing there is plenty of that in India If you want I can send you a small amount of the culture so you can grow it yourself and be sure that it is pure chlorella without any other harmful algae variations. As a health food it easily tops spirulina, just make a google search on benefits of chlorella vulgaris. So far I calculate that you need around 1 cubic meter of container space to grow about a kilogram of this algae in powder form in a week. So I think it is just what you are looking for judging from the price of chlorella powder. You need water at PH around 7, distilled if you can manage it. Add chlorella culture to the reservoir, maintain the water temperature at around 30 degree celsius and provide as much light as possible 12 hoours in a row (a day) and let them rest through night in darkness. You will also need an aquarium air pump and an air filter, so that the air bubbled into the water is pure and does not contain any other algae type or pathogens. Chlorella eats CO2 from air and produces oxygen, that is almost all they need. So if you need more details I will PM you the complete procedure.
Sorry for not replying you earlier.
It's better to wear off by working than to rust by doing nothing.

                          Hello Imakebiodiesel
                          Can U try & test the mixture of=( WVO-biodiesel + Plastic-derived diesel).

                          Kris ;
I guess your heating system is not so good/efficient. 8-hours of heating should have taken the temperature upto 450 celcius easily .
U should double your heaters & without insulation you'll never be able to reach 450.Remember to insulate the top-lid also .

Try to use one type of waste plastic to startwith .later you should experiment with different mixtures .

I just completed fabricating a Condensor having 17-ft long U-shaped-tubes in it. I will try to get the pics for you guys .

I would like to ask you is there a way to remove the smell from the plastic derived fuel ???

Can we pass the vapors through a packed-bed filter, filled with charcoal would be of any help ???

can we remove sulfur from our fuel ???

                            • Hello Asad, it is great to see you too
Unfortunately I can't answer your questions as I don't know. I haven't made any experiments since my old band heater broke and the new ceramic one just can't deliver the heat needed so the experiments are on hold for now. This is also the reason I have not posted much lately. I have much other stuff to on my mind right now, but when I manage to free some time, I will build a small 40Liter unit, I have the heaters for that unit already laying around and waiting. I will talk to my chemist friend about the sulfur and smell issue and let you know
                              Thanks,
                              Jetijs

                                hi jetijs,

many thanks for your reply. the suggestions and comments you have put - are guiding me greatly. just some queries -

                                1) if chlorella algae is 3-4 times more price giving compared to spirulina maxima, i dont undetstand, why .. spirulina growers are so much ( atleast in india ) compared to chlorella.

                                2) i would be highly thankful and obliged, if i get a detailed production report of chlorella algae. ( tomorrow only i m also going to a far 1000 miles away place to attend a workshop on growing of spirulina maxima ) - i would definately give focus on growing your chlorella algae, since 1 m3 of pond, is worth of place, anyone can afford and grow up.

                                3) hwoever, i m a bit sceptical about the demand supply ratio of chlorella and spirulina maxima. actually, buddy, you dont know, how much effect i can create through my series of free seminars and workshops. just today only one of my friend pointed out, that if i would take 100 free sessions all over india.. the spirulina growers in india only, would be so much, that the demand supply ratio would be shaken off. just a point.. a comment of yours.. on this.. would be highly helpful.

                                4) please send me the chlorella algae sample. also tell me the procedure , how to keep a sample alive all the time, 12*24 for further distribution.

                                5) above all -- i am really interested in your plastic to diesel project. i m studying the plastic scrap market here. a big market is there. big workout can be possible.

                                kindly comment / guide.
                                btw - i understand u got married ( since i undertand u've been back of honeymoon )
                                congrates dear.
