    "back-popping"

This is exactly what I thought, but he is not doing that exactly.
he is placing a choke from the cap to the primary/run battery.

so you have an extra pickup coil charging a cap then you use your timing wheel to dump the energy in that cap back to the primary battery. during the dump the energy has to flow through the choke/inductor whatever - in order to get back to the primary battery.
we finally got around to experimenting w/ this this last night and came to some mixed results. we have modified our kit so much we will have to reorganize an experiment before we can report anything conclusively, but it does look promising. there is a nice spike produced in the process, similar to the one you can induce on the front end. soo many mods so little time, my daughter likes this one -

I have my hand in way too many SSG cookie jars lately. Tinkering with a lit, but not really one thing in depth.

Anyways, a real interesting one, relating to backpopping through an inductor. Instead of the inductor, I ran it back through the coils. The second set if windings on a bifilar coil, in series on the 3PM. Had interesting effects on current draw, wheel speed, and secondary battery charge.

      Another experiment to play with.
