A fantastic technology that has been in sparce use around the world is getting an upgrade in the Bay of Fundy, located between Nova Scotia and Maine.

Since 1984 Nova Scotia Power has operated the only tide-harnessing power generating station in the Western hemisphere. The Annapolis Tidal Station in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia is a 20 megawatt facility that uses a dam system called a barrage to funnel tidal ocean water through a turbine to generate power.

But now a new system is slated to be put in place. One that would solve the problems of the old system, such as interference with marine life and shore line erosion, and be implemented on a much larger scale.
