  • Renewable Energy developments

First of all, I am new to this forum, thus there might be some unfamiliar rules that I do not know. Recently, I had been instruct by an assignment to research on the developments made regarding renewable energy. As I am quite unfamiliar with this topic, I came to this forum to get more information for my research.

So, can anyone please kindly contributes some recent developments on renewable energy?

To be quite honest, IMO, we've reached a time where just about nothing new can be invented.

We are all re-discovering the workings of devices which were made in the past. From ancient Egyptian devices, to Tesla's work, it's all been done before, and hidden or lost, but it's there, and making a come back. Anyone who tells you it's never been done before is either uninformed or a liar.

Your question is too broad. If you were to ask whats the latest with solar, or batteries, or generators, or motors etc... it would be a little easier to answer. The truth is, EVERYTHING is being developed.

Thank you for the reply! I came across an article which talks about Sewage treatment as a source of energy in New York City. Due to foul odors and contaminations of waterways if this project is implemented, I think that many people will object the plan and in my opinion, it will not work out very well. But New York City has been disposing their wastes like sludge, and methane gas, which can be used as sources of renewable energy. Any thoughts on this project?

Glad you could ask a specific question, I'm happy to answer!

Just focusing on the methane is foolish, and a distraction from what can really be done

Waste treatment in a plasma reactor uses just about anything as a fuel (sewage in this case) by burning it in a super hot plasma, and the heat created by it can be used as an energy source (probably to run a steam powered generator). The by-product is inert, and sterile.

It is a VERY GOOD way of doing things if you ask me.

Also, any time you make a plasma, there are positive and negative ions that are created, so if you can create a charge separation, you can directly extract electrical energy from the ions by causing the electrons from the negative ions to pass through a circuit before moving to the positive ions to neutralize them!

Or you can slam the negative and positive together after they are separated and built up, and release explosive energy (Fusion or a similar thing can happen). So actually you could build a fusion reactor and as the fuel use ionized sewage!

Good post on the New York City sewage treatment project. Personally, I think that New York should carry on with this project as not only New York produces vast amount of sludge and methane gas as you have mentioned, but also other byproducts of wastewater which are all potential sources of renewable energy.

Heating fuel can be extracted from sludge and butanol, which are alternative fuel for gasoline. They came from the algae produced by the wastewater. The sewage treatment can obtain methane gas to provide more power for houses.

So if you ask my thought, my conclusion is that they should carry on with the project. I hope I have help you in some way

There are a few companies doing just this. Our garbage dumps and wastes are being seen as valuable fuel now.
