  • Solar Powered Electric 24V motor mower?

    Hi All,

For my latest project I am looking for a way to power my electric motor mower from a solar panel.

I have an enviromower eco 500 which is powered by two rechargeable sealed 12V DC 10Amp hour lead-acid type batteries linked in series encased as a single battery that goes into the unit.

The motor in it is a 24V / 500W, 21 amp permanent magnet, high torque electric motor.

It takes about 12 hours to charge the battery from a 240v - 24v plug pack and you get about an hours use out of it before recharging, this is just enough to do my front and back yards.

I have a Super Force Battery Charger - Solar, 12V DC with an output voltage of 12V-15V DC (15V Max) @ 100-120mA.

I actually get about 16-17V DC out of the unit.

In Australia we have an abundance of sunshine and it would be great to get rid of the batteries and never to have to charge them again.

I thought it might be possible to step up the output voltage of the solar panel to 32V DC and then charge a cap bank and regulate the power back to 24V continuous.

Any suggestions on a circuit I could use for this?

    Regards,
