'Optical Battery' Discovery Could Mean Solar Power Without Solar Cells

The report explains that light has both electric and magnetic components but, until now, scientists believed the magnetic field effects were weak enough that they could be ignored. Rand and his fellow researchers, however, found that at the right intensity, when light is traveling through a material that does not conduct electricity, the light field can generate magnetic effects that are 100 million times stronger than thought possible. Under these circumstances, says Rand, the magnetic fields become similar in strength to a strong electric effect.

Before, this effect had only been observed in crystalline materials that possessed a certain symmetry. This process works with materials such as glass, but presently requires light that surpasses the sun’s natural intensity. Fisher indicated they were working on finding materials that would work at lower light intensity.

This would be perfect for the solar death ray, for the light intensity at the focal point surpasses the sun's natural intensity. What was Ed Leedskalnin using the glass bottles for? Was he using this process in reverse to achieve magnetic effects that were 100 million times stronger than thought possible.

Been there done that

Too easy...Mine was used for burning stumps and heating an outdoor water resevoir to save on pool heating. Until a tracking accident set the pool shed on fire and the local Fire department gave me a fine and the city bylaws started the harrasment with a cease and desist order which I can't afford to fight legally. So much for my emerging stump burning business DENIED. FYI I used a childs plastic snow saucer. This was long before youtube and cheap used sat dishes. Sycophants hate innovation and competition.

that would also be similar to the method theorized for the Greek ship-burning, lots of shiny surfaces all aimed at roughly the same point. Not nearly as efficient as a parabola, but get enough mirrors aimed and poof.
