hydro power is one of the best renewable resources. electrical technologies has been advanced a lot, so developing hydro power lets us to minimize the energy problem in long term.

There are way's to design hydro power so they have less impact to the environment. Viktor Schauberger showed how one could use the natural bending of a river to focus water's strength and to generate power, with little impact to the river. One could also make a magnetohydrodynamic cell that is placed where salt water currents flow and generate electricity with hardly any impact.
So, there's way's of doing it with little impact. People just choose not too.
But, I'm a big fan of geothermal, for me that's a very sound way to produce great power with very little impact.
