  • Rest period after radiant charge

How long should you wait after radiantly charging a lead acid battery before using it, to achieve maximum COP? I have been waiting 4 hours, but that is just to let the battery settle so I can take a standing voltage reading. I have searched these forums and the web but all I have come across is the fact that they need to rest, but no specifics on how long.

    That's your answer twofortheroad
Settle - means the ions are not longer traveling from plate to plate in one direction. When I condition (format) batteries (cycling process of charging - settling-discharging) I usually wait couple hours however, I think it could be even shorter time. This resting/settling period will also depend on the battery size and pulse which was used. There is a difference pulsing from single coil SSG and #18 multifilar ( 80 ) running off 36V or more.
You may also notice after several cycles of charge/rest/discharge your battery may need much less time to reach same level, say 14.5V.

    I hope this helps

with regard to battery charging application with
An early school girl, one replicator commented that conditioning can take
anywhere from several days to several weeks, the reason being so many
variables. I also recall Tom Bearden commenting that on his Meg in order to
measure the output he recommended conditioning a carbon resistor first.
That just blew me away because the territory is anything but conventional.
