The Pyramidal Electric Transducer:
A DC to RF Converter for the Capture of
Atmospheric Electrostatic Energy by Peter Grandics*
Morpher44 and all,
Perhaps you guys will find this of interest:
"We have found that the dimensional ratios of the Great
Pyramid of Giza (GPG) express the key ratios of an AC voltage sine wave as well as ratios of the Fibonacci number. As
pyramidal horn antennas are suitable for the detection of
short-pulse waveforms, we reasoned that the shape of GPG
could embody a time domain, wideband antenna for atmospheric electrostatic discharge (ESD) impulses. This hypothesis has subsequently been confirmed. We have further found
that the pyramidal antenna, modeled on the GPG, can couple into the atmosphere and transfer the power of ESD
impulses into a novel lumped-element resonant circuit that
converts the random impulses into regular series of exponentially decaying sinusoidal wave trains. Thus, ESD
impulses can be transformed into an alternating current of
predictable frequency. This system could become a source of
renewable electric power by utilizing the electrical activity of
the atmosphere."

Wow! Interesting paper. I'll be studying this one carefully this summer.
Thanks for the link.
I'm a little reluctant to report a phenomenon that I don't quite have a handle on yet.
It is very possible that I've damaged my oscilloscope and so I can't trust what I'm seeing.
What I am seeing with various experiments is a little odd with respect
to frequencies. I can see what looks like a phenomenon of the coil
resonating at say frequency X ... and then suddenly some event .. a receive voltage spike say ..
will cause the resonant frequency to SHIFT lower for a time to frequency Y. I don't know if there is a relationship between
X & Y because the event is very non-deterministic and jumps around too much.
My scope might be hosed since I've been playing with high voltages and may have messed up some of the scope's circuitry.
What is odd though is that my human capacitance can trigger these
sort of events. Moving my hand near the Bashar STA can alter the tuning
and pop the frequency up or down. Wild! Yes these coils can pick up
stray fields and human capacitance, etc.
So I'm wondering if self-resonance in this coil is a stair-case of frequencies,
depending upon stored energy in the coil. Boost the energy, and the
INDUCTANCE might change in a "variable" sort of way since the
two coils are interpenetrating and create mutual spinning flux.
I think it is hopeless for me to measure this with my LAME equipment
so I might need to buy another scope.
If anyone else is attempting to replicate this LARGE coil, keep a look
out for this phenomenon. If the INDUCTANCE is stair-cased
with energy levels, that would be fascinating and might be
a means of getting larger inductance (or more ideal inductance
if capacitance is canceled).
Certainly these large air coils are fun!!!
Be careful, though, with your expensive test equipment like scopes
and spectrum analyzers, etc. There can be large voltage spikes here
that can exceed the ratings of your equipment.
It is known since the days of magnetic amplifiers, that you can
add a FLUX into a coil to control it .. using this added flux
as a sort of GATE. People used to create amplifiers and power/voltage
controller circuits using coils only.
Air coils offer an interesting value-added feature here in that
unlike coils with ferromagnetic cores, air coils are linear over a wider
range of frequencies and you don't have to worry about
saturation. The Bashar STA is a sort of 1-to-1 transformer
coil with complex magnetic flux patterns that I imagine
might cork-screw clock-wise, then counter-clock-wise rather
than being parallel like in a cylinder shape.
Someone who is very familiar with the physics equations for flux
might try to model this shape and "predict" what the magnetic fields
would look like with an ac waveform (or pulsed damped sine wave).
You might like this then...
A micro Tesla tower using a Slayer exciter circuit on 7.5V, with pyramid shaped interlocking Bashar/Russell coils and a flux capacitor from the link posted above.
It was your work in this thread that prompted many recent thoughts of my own, for alternative coils for Tesla towers.
The output of the pyramid shapes wasn't as good as experiments with the admittedly rough but round Bashar interlocking coils. Until - I added the flux capacitor. Things improved by about 1/3rd !
The capacitor stage has 3 joins, as expected, 2 are the choke type sections from Collector of the transistor and to the top of the top coil. The capacitor is soldered at the midpoint and connects to the bottom of the second coil.
There may be nothing much to it as an overall concept, who knows, but it did improve the whole setup for wireless electricity. To the point of being comparable with a 2 turn primary that I usually use.
This "ambient power module" is what I'm using as one way of measuring
power from the Bashar STA.
Converting to DC makes it easy with just a resistor and a voltage you can calculate power w/o having to worry about the complexity of waveforms, and getting true RMS results, etc.
It might also be necessary to go a little higher on the incoming capacitor values... instead of .2uf, perhaps 1uf is better ... with a HIGHER voltage
rating if you want to experiment with pushing things a bit.
I've already ZAPPED one of these that I've made.
One thing I've found which is "CRUCIAL" is you want to GROUND with a good earth ground the NEGATIVE output side of this thing.
The power levels go WAY WAY up after doing so.
