Hi folks, That sounds worth giving a try, I think i have at least 3 old hard drives, are the covers mu metal also or just the magnet holders.
In the meantime, I am going to setup my older test rig for making tests to manifest this effect again, will use my external motor and belt drive to drive it, then I can play with different cores and such.
Nice work toranarod, I hope the mu metal shows some good results. Where did you get that stuff?
peace love light

Still many things to consider but the question of why the lamp cause speed up and slow down when gets hot can be explain with variable resistance due to heat.
Did anyone pay attention to the bit in the video where he says that using an all metal coil former worked better than plastic? Might have something to do with why Romero used metal washers above and below his coils.

While it would be good to know if the coil bobbin (the metal former) is made of a magnetic or non magnetic metal, the effect of eddy currents induced in the side of the metal bobbin should also be considered. This effect is not present in the case of the plastic former of course.
Even If he used the same number of turns for both the plastic and the metal former coils, the two tapes of coils self inductance was not the same because if the metal was ,say, from aluminum for instance, then this coil had a few percent less self inductance than the plastic core coil. Maybe this is not a significant difference, nevertheless it is good to know about it and better to measure them.
Yes, this it true. I was seeing all of these results about 6 months ago, but what I think that he should also demonstrate, is the coil-less rpm of the rotor, like Rodney, did, which will "prove" that there is energy inserted to the system, by a shorted coil.
Very good to see people are waking up to this simple idea!! Very happy.
OK guys here is some food for thought. I totally want people to do this on their own and check my results. I may be off so a simple replication test or three would be great!
Knowing that you can drop a magnet through a copper pipe and it slows down, I decided to try it through a vinyl tube with a copper wire coil around it and see if shorting made any difference.
The coil was some old speaker wire I had around. 1 layer winding. it came to about 14" long. The tube has a 5/8" ID. The magnet is a 1/2" diameter by 1/2" length neo.
Measured by filming each drop and counting the frames between lines. (lines were 1" past the start and end of the coil)
Interesting results. Note: These only differ by one to two frames, BUT each test with the same circumstances brought the same results.
Seems that doing a shorted coil drop test you still get acceleration on the magnet? But only if the magnet is up to a certain speed already?? (doesn't rod have to get his system up to speed before introducing the coils?) Interesting stuff... Please feel free to test this out on your own and post to confirm or disprove my results..
Note: I originally did the test without a "no coil" control. I went back to do the no coil testing and did not oil the tube like I did in the previous tests. This may explain why the no coil 1" drop took longer? Not sure.
Trust your own instinct. Your mistakes might as well be your own, instead of someone else's ~BW~ It's kind of fun to do the impossible ~WD~ From now on, I'll connect the dots my own way ~BW~ If I shall be like him, who shall be like me? ~LR~ Had I not created my whole world, I would certainly have died in other people’s ~AN~
Am I wrong, or is the coil shorting in quantumuppercut's video just forming an
electromagnet and this is what is causing the RPM's to speed up by attraction or repulsion to the rotor ? Has this been tried with just a permanent magnet in
place of the coil. As I said I might be all wrong. Can anyone clear this up ?

Sir If I may ask,you have a Big pile of Mu Metal?
Others are exploring this "effect" from a Transformer [Thane] perspective.
Your material {mu metal } is perfect for making trans Chassis.
Can you Divulge a source?
Thank You
Chet
just check on ebay as the link below suggest. I cannot find the suppler.
I purchased my Mu Metal about 4 years ago. All I am doing is cutting it into strips and compressing it together in epoxy resin to form a laminated block that will exactly replace my iron core. If we are to get some good comparison figures between iron and Mu metal the cores need to be identical in mass.
