  • Commercial Wireless Energy!

Hi saw this technology shown on the Discovery Science channel's SciFi Science prog with Dr Michio Kaku. The funny thing was, We saw the good Dr leaving the Establishment after a demonstration of the tech,I noticed that they fuzzed out the Companies Logo/Signage on the building but,on another camera angle you could make out the company name.(Witricity Corp)So i had a look for them

WiTricity Corp. Home — Wireless Electricity Delivered Over Distance

Looks like wireless energy transfer is about to go mainstream but what i am wondering is,is this their own work or work based on other inventors discoveries? I also see that GE are involved in the funding of this company! i always thought that they were the bad guys?

Some of you are prolly aware of this company already!

    Best Regards
    Jay

    Hi jay
My company does a great deal of business with Delphi and GE. I all ask some of my contacts at both places what they know of it and report back.

        Delphi

        Hi Jay
My GE contact is out til after the holiday. My Delphi contact however said this is still in the experimental stage, but from I could gather from him and from thier site it sounds more like simplified version of Tesla's wireless transmission system.

If you look at the 2007, 8, 9 videos on YouTube, mostly the companies that wished to forward such technology are induction based.
Phone chargers and portable devices being powered by placing them on mats etc. All very valid, but a different wireless to what may be expected, it's coil induction. The technology is very valid and some aesthetically pleasing models have been shown.

Radio stations are a good example of commercial wireless too...a crystal set receiving the transfer well enough to be heard with no battery needed.
If we take out the audio from a radio signal, we are left with the carrier signal power

The current form of wireless has been around for quite some time. How many have a tooth-brush or shaver that you just sit into a cradle and charge? What is going on here is that there is a standardization so that multiple devices can be charged from a single interface. No one I hope thinks that some magic is present here where just place a device that has a rechargeable battery near one of these interfaces and it will charge. It will not unless it is properly configured for the interface.

Is there 100% coupling in such devices?, NO! Okay so would it be better to directly connect it to an individual charger? Yes!

What is being presented is old news, old technology and much like the CFL's that are now forced on everyone. Illusion! Neat, just place your device on the pad and get a charge, WHAT! It cost more than a direct connection, hey forget that, look at the convenience.

              @All
Hold the presses I have groundbreaking news, one hundred and eighty years after Faraday discovered induction, after we have put men on the moon and autonomous probes on mars one man has done the impossible he has transferred real energy from one coil of wire to another coil of wire over a distance of one meter!. My god I almost fainted, my heart was racing, my visioned blurred, I fell to my knee's and wept like a newborn--we have done the impossible, the un-imaginable, the imponderable, the inunponderunimaginable -- we have transferred real energy from one coil of wire to another coil of wire-- Oh the humanity!.
Personally I find this mindboggling considering the fact I did this same thing in my garage many years ago using under $10 worth of components. As well the fact that anyone would even consider this groundbreaking let alone "new" or even interesting is odd. The year is 2011, that is 2011, and some MIT schmuck finally figures this out?. If this is any indication of the intelligence out there, of the state of technology, we are really hooped.

                Ah!

Thanks for those replies Bizzy,Dr Stiffler and all

I was having a look at all their techno garb and they claim it is not induction but something called Non-Radiative Energy Transfer whatever that is

I am just a learner so, I have a question, when i run a small ignition coil from a CFL circuit (normally pins 1 & 4) i can light cfl's and neon's either single wire or wireless style, is that Induction?

oh yes and is that dangerous using the CFL circuits? What sort of amperage do they put out?

                Thanks in advance

                Jay
