  • Neodymium materials Price up way up.

    Dear thehydrogenshop,

G'day , sorry we're right out of stock on the 22x 10 and almost half of our stock range are gone now.

There has been a shake up in the magnet industry in China, the Government have placed restrictions on the way Neodymium materials are being used, something about stopping the exploitation of magnetic materials around the world.
The result of this is that material costs have risen from US$30 per tonne to US$250 for the factories to buy the rare earth materials.
Soon it's expected to move to US$350 per tonne.

What this mean is that magnet prices are going to lift by 10 times the current price here in Australia.
We have been wiped out of stock over there last couple of months from buyers around the world snapping up what old stocks are still available.
We have had a orders in for several months now but where a stock order may have been approx $5000 the same order has blown out to $25 - 30k + so we are still debating what to do with all this.
Regrettably out stock very run down . The only magnets I have left available for now are listed on eBay.
If you find one you can use buy up big you will never see these prices again That I can assure you.

    Ian

I only did ask myself Why now.
To much private Persons, what do buy them? And play with it?
Or do they want sell Solar Panels and Windmills?
China did the same with the Copper price, that it raised it very high.

A Friend told me, that China was actually the cheapest Manufacture from the Magnets,
someone else said, that China will produce more Magnets by her own and sell them by itself.
And, that it seems they going to build here at 'West Side' also Factorys,
because its not like that they dont have the Raw Material here, but China was cheaper with the Price till now, and they did not build any here.
I just hope, they can replace Neodym with an other Material, till Magnets will be affordable again. Even when a regular Person only need a bunch of them, and not Tons.
Either that, or we have to look how we can build our Devices in Solid State.
Theorizer are like High Voltage. A lot hot Air with no Power behind but they are the dead of applied Work and Ideas.

for now just collecting ring magnets from microwave ovens and hard disk neodyne magnets
nothing we can do new tech means more expensive neos
      cheers

I can't believe these price are still climbing at this crazy rate.

I bought 100 Magnets for $300.00 in November 2010, now the same ones are $1,900!!

Some US and other country's Rare Earth mines are scheduled to come back online within a year. In the us they have to deal with a lot permitting and authorization junk before they get online.

I gave a heads up on this almost 4 months ago on March 18 when I said, "Now is the time to buy the neos, not later" in this thread titled, "Permenant Magnets". Three days later Roland created a thread titled, "Whats up with the price of Rare Earth magnets?", which I reposted the information on how China produces 97% of the world's supply and they're not selling. We must come to terms that they are creating a shortage. Reopening the mines will probably only support the military/governments and won't benefit the general public much.

We are being hung-out to dry on every corner imaginable. The fact is, there is no real shortage of rare earths elements just like there is no real shortage on oil. They want us to think there is a shortage so they can drive the prices sky high and rip the working man off and keep the general population suppressed. If there's not a real shortage, then they will create or fake a shortage to support their agenda. They do not have our best interests in mind.

We don't need Neo's, I don't have any, I have a few ceramic magnets on my bike wheel energiser, that's it. I've never even bought a Neo magnet.

We will just have to use electromagnets, field magnets and armature coils.

They make these things plentifull and cheap first so the production of a lot of consumer stuff rely's on them then they jack the price up and make them rare to make a killing on the profit.

This kind of thing will not stop happening while people rely on what is produced by companies for profit for thier everyday convenience's or needs.

If we rely on others they will profit from us how ever they so choose. And there is nothing we can do about it. It's human nature at the moment to do that.

                Cheers

P.S. I lied before, I do have neo magnets and I did buy them I just forgot. It just occured to me that I have one of those theraputic mattress cover thingy's which has a lot of little neo magnets in it, I've never used it so I might put it up for sale on ebay for about $4000.00 it only cost a $100.00 to buy I think not sure maybe it cost a bit more or less can't remember. But it must be worth a bit now.

I am placing all my magnets in a safety deposit box.

Yes you are total correct. We can use Ferrite magnets.

I have hundreds of Neos in all sizes.I will put them away with the family jewels if I need them for a job only neos can do But ferrite will do OK for most research.

There are two reasons for the price increase, Inflation due to the increased money supply (bailouts Quantitative easing) and second, you might have noticed we are in the start of the global resource wars. The US and Britain have gone after oil and lithium in the near and middle east of course China will use whatever it can to combat this.

Are you still having difficulties finding these magnets?

                      Bummer about the price increase

                        German Wikpedia Page says,
that because of the toxic and radioactive Waste, what happens at the Production, they created a Enviromental-Protect Program, what did start to run since June '11, and closed the half from the illegal mines, thats where the restrictions for Export come from, as Totalas also mentioned.

I have read it before too, but anyhow i dont buy it, that it is like this.
                        https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikiped...dymium_magnets
                        History and manufacturing , Production
And i buy it even more less, because of the Device from Romero, which used a lot of them.

I can only cry about it.
And no, they are no store of value for me, because they are tools, toys, but nothing extraordinary.
