Energy expert warns MPs and peers of oil shock
Demand for oil will start to outstrip supply by the middle of the decade, and reserves have been exaggerated by at least 250 billion barrels, Dr Oliver Inderwildi told MPs and peers at the House of Commons last night (June 14th). Please see his presentation slides below.
    Peak Oil Risk Presentation

    Dr Oliver Inderwildi
Dr Inderwildi, Head of the Low Carbon Mobility Centre at the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment was speaking at a meeting of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Oil and Gas, which was discussing peak oil and transport.
Dr Inderwildi explained to the All Party Group the strategic risk a peak oil scenario poses to the United Kingdom and set out specific measures that would reduce UK’s oil dependence in the short-term and recommended policies that will support these measures.

We are living on the edge...of what...who knows

all i can say is that if you pay attention to politics all over, for some weird reason long term plans don't seem to get quite as much attention, as if governments around the world are living on a day to day basis. Makes you wonder about the future....

I like to keep it positive...and you should too

Agreed - and on that note, I thought this was brilliant: (first post)

No doubt the "expert" works for an oil company. Oil prices are determined by oil scarcity, have you noticed when the price is low they cut supply.

There is much truth and misinformation in the statement. Oil demand will outstrip supply but only because they want it to, this will keep the price high and line their pockets with your money. Published reserve figures are greatly exaggerated, this is because of how the oil companies receive funding from governments based upon the size of their reserves. There are many more huge oilfields such as the one of gull island that has yet to be announced.

All carbon trading is a scam and just a tax on one of the earths life giving gasses, plants need it. As of today we are in a low co2 period, it was much higher in the middle ages and has been many times throughout history.

On the oil reserves there is some truth as I said but also omissions. Most of the oil we use today comes from isolated lakes and this is a non renewable resource, there is however a type of oil that is being continuously replenished by plate tectonics. Oil is created deep in the earth at the subversion zones of the earths crust and this is a renewable resource known as adiabatic oil. It refills some of the oilfields we use but unfortunately not as fast as we are pumping it out. Some oil is now extracted directly from this adiabatic supply, unfortunately a lot of it has ended up on the bottom of the gulf of Mexico. There are many new huge oilfields that are known but not yet announced, these will come into play in the future. Do you remember Russia and America having a race to plant a flag on the seabed under the north pole? Now you know why.

The truth is oil is a renewable resource but just like the rain forests, the huge corporations will overuse it just as they have with the rain forests. There is a limited rate at which we can extract oil and i have no idea what that is, but we are nowhere near any crisis in oil other than the ones they deliberately create. The peak oil that they have set is has nothing to do with the quantity of oil that remains, it is only about how much money they can get for it.

I am not a fan of the oil industry and would like to see most of the dependence on it removed. I hate the use of oil to make drugs and fertilizers, much of the plastics and oil based chemicals are not necessary and could be replaced with more sustainable resources, but of course that would take planning and investment. They are too busy having wars and steeling our money and pensions to do that. Rant Rant Rant

I still think we should leave it under the ground where it belongs if we possibly can, it makes a big mess when we bring it to the surface even when it is done by best practice it's dirty and unnatural.

          Cheers
