There are some important things to remember when doing these comparisons. Food treats are not the proper incentive to use; because they delve into the instinctual requirement for food; focusing the chimp's brain using instinct in ways that do not happen for purely "intellectual" or "reasoning" eh... reasons. For instance, we do not know if the chimp missed breakfast before this test... what if they react less brilliantly with a full belly?

Dolphins also do amazing things for treats when in captivity. But the really interesting things, are what they do in the wild when no "treat" incentives are involved (there are many quite astonishing things, but that's another thread lol).

So imo, the concept of doing these Studies while the creature is in captivity is a problem that tilts the results.

Yeah, also the children are trying to not get in trouble for not doing it the way they were shown. The chimps don't care about pleasing the person (experimenter) they just don't care, the children want to please the adult (experimenter) by showing they can do all the movements they were shown.

This to me proves that people are taught to be unthinking followers/copiers and is indicitive of what is wrong with our education system. A lot of pointless activity for small reward. Children are taught not to think but to believe and copy. And children are generally worried that if they don't do as they are told or shown they will get in trouble.

A good experiment would be to put a really nice toy in there and take away the tapping rod and tell the children to get the toy out now any way they want and see if they go looking for a stick or a rod to tap with or just start trying to get into it.

A clear case of scientific ignorance, they draw thier own conclusions and say they are correct.

Very sad they got it wrong in my opinion and missinterpereted the results.

Looks like a kind of silly conclusion they came to. Watch part 2.

      Cheers

I agree, it would be most interesting to do the experiment on children not in captivity
