  • New way to power a led.

here is a way to power a led with a single 1.5v battery that normally would require two 1.5v batteries. Also no external circuit is involved. It is made out of nothing but one battery of 1.5v. Some sand and water and a magnesium strip of 99.99 purity. To visit the site and read all the details visit Increasing the power of a battery.

it sounds to me like you are more or less making a single cell out of the battery casing and the magnesium, with the sand and water acting as the bridge. you basically have added another cell to the AA by running them in series. perhaps I am oversimplifying, but it seems like a reasonable enough explanation to me
nice experiment though, keep up the good work, this is how new things start
