    I'm writing a book

    Greetings,

    I'm writing a book about solar energy (probably just PV but haven't decided yet).

    I have sought (and gained) the permission of a moderator to place this post here. Thanks Jillian

    The book will be a guide for those thinking of getting in to solar energy and I would love to hear suggestions from anyone who has ideas that they think should be included: tips, tricks, what to avoid, what to look for etc. etc..

    Although I'm from Ireland, it will be aimed at the global market so I'm particularly interested in what's relevant in other countries

    Well I would find it interesting if you included a section that fairly evaluated Bedini's Tesla Solar Charger.

      A section on how to negotiate a fair price to sell your extra power back to the utility company would be great.
      Trust your own instinct.         Angle of insolation, MPPT's, inverters, batteries, islanding (if your system is connected to the main grid).

          HV (720 + volts) MPPT charge controllers. You can then run many panels in series, instead of parallel to bring the energy back to distribution, more efficiently.

          Has anyone seen my Bedini Ceiling Fan that pushes the warm air down, and charges batteries as an added bonus? Me neither. 'Bout time I made one!!!!! :P

              Don't forget the "Feed in Tariff" which is the backbone of the whole
              idea. I have a feeling it has recently been cut in half, possibly ruining
              the whole concept for many.

                Some good studies have been done on "shadows" across panels, they cut efficiency much more than one would expect for the area that was affected.

                For instance, on sailboats, when a rope line's shadow crosses the panel (or one of the stays), it can lower output by as much as 15%.... even thought the area of that might be only about 2% of the total.

                  I see so many houses that are not optimally oriented to catch the sun yet solar companies will put them on anyway. When do they cease being worth your while to put them on?
                  If I were to get them my house would be perfect. South facing , pitched and unobscured.
