Eric Dollard made mention of Goethe's Formative Forces as a reference to understanding the aether.
I researched this a bit and found quite a bit online - here is a simple Google search:
Goethe's Formative Forces
16 years ago, I pulled an entire model of evolution out of the aethers based on what I called - Formative Thought Fields and Formative Forces. I literally used those exact words and used the word "formative" from the context of a child's formative years but applying it to the context of a formative type of information in in the "aether" that influences biology for evolutionary purposes.
A goofy example that I always explained was that if people needed a finger on the middle of their forehead and collectively this need was so great the the intention would alter the "formative thought field" in the "collective" and in return would start to influence our dna/biology so that little by little, we would start growing bumps on our foreheads and bit by bit over a period of time, we'd develop a finger on our forehead.
Anyway, that is the general concept of evolution that I developed for myself and I'm surprised to see that Goethe talks of similar forces and even uses the same term "formative forces."
For me, that was in 1995 or so and it wasn't for about another 10 years or so that I was introduced to Rupert Sheldrake's work and learned of "his" concepts of morphic fields. It seems that Sheldrake may have simply piggybacked on Goethe's work similar to how Bruce Lipton appears to be piggy backing on Edmund Jacobson's work.
Lipton's book Biology of Belief seems to be a play off of Biology of Emotion by Edmund Jacobson's epic work. Jacobson was the first to measure the body's physical reaction to thoughts both conscious and unconscious by implanting an electrode directly into the muscle. It was a device developed by Bell Labs and kicked off an entire culture of biofeedback type of devices, etc...
I have not had time to delve deep enough into Goethe's work as it pertains to the "formative forces" but I would recommend at least start by skimming though some links available on the Google search linked to above.
Look at this discussion of Goethe's Formative Forces to see the origin of his train of thought on the matter and the genesis of it.

"The concept of the formative force is not originally Goethe's. In fact, Goethe's vitalist view belonged to the Kant-Blumenbach tradition..."
Kant-Blumenbach
I don't know that I agree with Goethe's view that the amount of formative force per person, animal, etc... remains the same or not but especially NOT if he is equating this with a quantity of vital energy itself. If he is equating formative force and vital energy, then this would prevent any person from increasing their own vital energy. I haven't had time yet to investigate his work more thoroughly but intend to as time permits.
As experiences happen, I believe they are imprinted into this aether and is the source of what we call the collective. Regardless of what the case may be, there is information in these "formative forces" that can be downloaded to the subconscious mind and translated by the conscious thinking mind. There are organic ways to do it and more structured ways to get "direct knowledge" from the aether such as this:

You can see a handful of examples of taking nothing more than an arbitrary 8 digit number assigned to a target that I am 100% blind to and having the subconscious mind locate and identify the corresponding information in the aether, which has its own "informational template", and then making this information available to the conscious awareness.
It isn't magic and the methods to do this repeatedly and predictably have certainly been engineered. So although this doesn't prove what these formative information patterns are in the aether, it proves they are there and they hold very accurate information that can be retrieved in a very simple way.
These methods could be used to actually gain a more accurate understanding of the nature of the formative forces in and of themselves as well as the actual "structure" of the aether itself - it has been done in parts but not in a comprehensive project corroborated by multiple people with the same skill set that will give a more accurate picture.
Anyway, if anyone knows the exact books that Goethe has that are the best primers for his viewpoint on formative forces, please post the names.
