  • Capacitor charging effect

I've got a pulse charger (my own design, but similar to a lot of stuff on the forum) that I've been using for a while to restore batteries, and I'm having a strange effect. The voltage supply to the circuit is ~42 V DC. There's a 2200 microfarad 200 volt electrolytic capacitor on the supply voltage. After I turn off the circuit the capacitor charges up to over 100 volts over the next couple hours. That's a surprising amount of power that's just "appearing" from thin air into that capacitor. I'm trying to think of a way to use this, or to optimize the effect. Anyone else seen such a dramatic rise in voltage on such a large capacitor???

    Thoughts?

I think you could be on to something important. Can you post part of schematic around capacitor ? Do you have coil ? Do you have ground connected and what is that ?

      Hi Skaght,

What are you using as a supply? I know inductively pulse charging a cap creates an electret effect which seems to be what you are seeing. Strange you're seeing this on the input side.

Check Peter Lindemann's explanation on the electret effect in the Bedini cap pulser:
