  • Heavy magnetic storm - NOW!

We are for a few houres now in the influence of a CME (coronal mass ejection) from the sun, wich happend 19.01.2012.
It's unusual strong and will continue for the most time of the day.
Have an eye on your free energy machinery and stay mentaly cool please.

The CME was unusual, too because it was no spike. It was curve shaped with the strength of an M-4 flare.

    Excellent advice.

I heard it had been emitted, but hadn't thought to keep a check on things.
However - an odd link may have happened.

I've been making various salts cells over the past months (see Bedini Earth Light sticky for what folks are up to) and they run LED blocking oscillators. Occasionally, with some mixes, a storm may be noted to affect runnings. The cell will rise in voltage by a few mV before during and after the storm.
This may be related, dunno, but a purely water only 'battery' on an LED blocking oscillator quit for the first time in 3 months yesterday !
It's now returned to merrily flashing the LED

Could water be affected by a CME ?
As noted by Gestalt...we ourselves have a heck of a water content

        Slider and All:
On one of those solar flares one of my carbon/quartz cell that was running a Hartley ocillator went up to 60mA output at short circuit reading. This is much higher than the few mA that it started with. I have not really seen this again.
Have you been able to run the Stifflers type home made replication of the 18x board on your crystal cells output yet???

You will have a new opportunity to look how things are reacting:

          23.01.2012 M-8,7 flare erupted

Along with a heavy rise of the proton level.
Protons are still on the same level as after the CME. It's 20 h ago.
I saw the first time in 3 years observation the > 100 Mev protons apear, too.
Sunspot 1402 was nearly direct facing earth (70°).

The CME will arrive in about 20h, +- 6 hour. But this can vary :-)
If i'm online i will post when earths magnetic field gets hit.

We're also getting radio bursts, sometimes with a duration of a few hours, mostly in the range of 18 - 180 MHz.
... and of course ground current if the magnetic field cracks open under pressure from the CME.

          Regards
          Shin

            Thanks for the update Shin.
Yep, got a few things running now, in eager anticipation of, well, anything
I must say, homemade crystal radio's are performing rubbish at the moment !
I've built half a dozen in the past couple of weeks and none of them are able to pick up anything but the local sports station, even with wavetraps in use !

            @Nick - I haven't run a homemade 18X yet off a cell...good prompt
Just made a new cap can type (apologies if i'm losing other readers here with my salts cells shorthand). It is a stovetop, epsom salts, alum, precooked baking soda and this time with quartz crushed up within the mix. The neat thing, is the epsom salts layer added on top, when the mixture bubbles down while cooking. Last cell like that started running a 'Penny' oscillator on Nov 17th and only quit the other day.
That one is to be watched to see if it fires up again - it's still got the oscillator hanging off it.
The water cell is still trundling along and, if I stay awake, will be inspected at around 8am CST, when I believe the solar out throw arrives.
Otherwise, a water cell with running oscillator of older vintage, but treated with alum on the anode, will be watched. So that's a few different running oscillators.
If I get 60mA on these then I might wake to find smoke pouring from an LED or two

            -------
And the update, is that here in Oklahoma nothing much seems to have happened. The new cell as described above has increased the flash rate of its oscillator, but that's hardly scientific (0.603V, 0.25mA loaded). Everything else trundled on without issue, including the internet

The solar storm is set to continue throughout Wednesday.

                ...and later, I heard.

You might like to see these NASA pics from their STEREO sattelite:

                STEREO

The "22" is the date. I set it for that since post 1 referred to Jan 22.

If you change "ahead" to behind, you get the other sattelite,
                and 195/512 is the resolution.
