I think better solutions are inevitable and generally there is a logic progression which drives them. I first came up with the idea about a year ago when designing oscillating wing wind turbines. The problem is that they must be directional always pointing into the wind. So the obvious solution was to use an inertial mass disconnecting the moving frame(wing) from the stationary one(the frame). Then it occurred to me that it makes no sense to have a large oscillating inertial mass and a large heavy generator.... why not use the generator as the inertial mass, Doh.
I still find it mind boggling how solution's so far removed from the norm can just pop out of nowhere. So I started examining the thought process, the psychology behind how the creative mind functions. The best answer I could find was that the creative mind does not follow or rely on others but creates their own solutions as the problems manifest. That is the problem is not going to be solved by others and we have to think for ourselves without bias or external influences.
Normally I do a little general research to get the mind thinking then ignore everyone else and do my own thing, it seems to work.

Good god it scares me sometimes how similarly we think. Why separate the two, it opposes occams razor. The only issue I had with the second half (cylindrical magnet) Is the induction angle of the "stator" vs the rotatable mass "magnet". As it precesses you have to adjust or the coupling starts to wonder.
