  • Radus Boots

I thought I'll start this thread to allow sharing ideas about this particular device and possible application. I believe, this is very important key to something we maybe searching for. There are several projects being discussed on this forum which have something in common.

"A WKU employee, Radus inherited a peculiar object from his father: a jerry-rigged ski boot with a magnetic metal brick bolted to the bottom. In the 1960s, his father worked as an engineer for Westinghouse, which played a role in the space program".

    Very Cool

I'm glad you started this, it has been on my mind for a long...switching magnetic fields.....I'm working on it right now, but try to solve non-electric magnet switching in theory...I don't have any funds for hardware yet......using this info. from Davis Mag book.

        Reposting here

Thank you, Now can you tell me if the switching poles to the left of the arrow would be correct as shown,..esp. the second one to the left of the arrow?

          Raymond J. Radus

Here are about 5 Radus patents - most related to flux steering including his British and German ones on pulse control. It also has about 20 other flux steering patents - most I got a few months ago because of linear track experiments.

It is 10mb. If someone wants to get this zip and repost it, that would be great, because I'll remove this file soon.

          Must have books:

You can get copies of Handbook of Magnetic Phenomena as low as $36 + shipping USD here - Amazon.com: Handbook of Magnetic Phenomena for Electronic Engineers (9780442211844): Harry E. Burke: Books

Nature of Magnetism is harder but I saw a very good condition copy for $20 + shipping at Abe - but it is hard to find other low cost copies. The Amazon one is almost $100

            Thank you Aaron

I got the copy here -

            fluxsteeringpatents.zip

I spent all night searching and reading some of them. I have few pieces of MOT core and assembled crude setup to study this effect (flux transfer - as they call it). I put two coils with LED's around each keeper. I'll try to get another two on both prongs. It's interesting how the path can be manipulated. I think I'm getting better understanding of John's devices (at least I hope I do )

                Imagine this...
A couple of dark suits turn up at your door, your wife opens it and they start demanding entry to destroy equipment.
You walk up with a pair of those boots on !
Handy for a Friday night pub fight too !

This book is the best book on magnetism ever. Clear, concise, no rubbish and even a simpleton like me can understand most of the explanations. It is certainly a must have for ALL magnetic phenomenon.

                    Thanks for posting those patents Aaron In that zip file I found a patent on the same process as I had in mind when I said this in the Peg Motor thread;

Anyone that is interested should refer to the file US20090096219.pdf in the zip file Aaron posted. Exploring this is definitely on my list of things to play with when I get some money.

                      Raymond Radus

                      Hey Guys,

Posted a link to a video on the Radus boots over in the BFW thread...

Thought some of you might be interested in seeing it.

I think I understand the boots conceptually and how they work, but I can't quite wrap my head around how the switching could be done for free. I realize that is what JB is doing with the regauging motor on the Ferris Wheel, but doesn't it take some energy to fill the coils to flip the flux? Not sure flux is the right word.

                      Anyway, enjoy!

                      Thanks, Brent

The switching can be done in a variety of ways. If you consider "Hopkinson's law: the magnetic analogy to Ohm's law" and the fact that all flux will take the path of least resistance you can imagine a few switching methods.

If you have two paths for the flux to travel coming out of a magnetic source (permanent magnet) the flux will tend to the path of least resistance. If you the two paths alternate in their effective "resistance" or magnetic reluctance, the flux path will switch along with it.

Reluctance can be changed by saturation of the core (or part of the core) along axial lines of the pm flux, or orthogonal to it (this could take the form of parametrics), which will also change permeability. You can also change gap spacing, or by moving something (ferromagnetic material, or another permanent magnet) in relation to to the Bloch wall.

It is relatively obvious in my book why the MEG does not work as described. If you really wanted to make that guy run, I would ditch the trigger coils which create their flux paths along the same path as the magnet, and go for ones orthogonal to it. This will change the permeability of a section of the core increasing the reluctance of the loop associated with it. The result is still a change in the flux path, but now the output coils are not inductively connected to the trigger (which can be mechanical like in Wesley gary's motor, or electric).

                        Hope this helps!

                        Wesley Gary's Magnetic Motor

Hello Armagdn03, CAn you tell me if the pole changes will happen as depicted as I've drawn...Others have said they think it will, can you be sure?

Sorry, It's not anything, just wanted to see if pole changes on the center row of Y magnets would change to as shown at arrow by infuence of the magnets shown on the top row. If the fields would sequence as shown when the top row was moved in one direction...and if the pole second to the left of the arrow would be switched off.
