Solar Panels

I had done a solar panel with copper wires. It seems that it's not a good idea cause copper expand alot in heat. I found many cells with broken contacts. I should done it atleast with thin copper wire.
Another thing is it better to higher voltage than putting cells in parallel for battery charging?
Any suggestions?
