So to cause a secondary current this magnetic field has to induce an electric field that causes the current. I don't see how you could get rid of this induction of fields idea in this particular case. If the secondary magnetic field would be inside the secondary windings than ok but not if the field is entirely in the iron.
So I still hold on to the induction of fields idea but interesting article and thoughts!
