  • Converting three phase power into four phase?

Can anyone give some ideas how to convert three phase (400V/50Hz) power to a four phase system? Is it possible to do with adding a coil or a condenser to the neutral cable (or can the neutral cable be used as the fourth phase?)? The idea would be to create a four phase system according to Eric's four quadrant theory and experiment with it.

All ideas and schematics are welcome!

Perhaps the simplest way to move forward in this due to the lack of responses would be to build a four phase generator and experiment with that.

Another would be to get a synchronous machine and use that to experiment.

    So, we'll see.

Managed to figure it out. The answer was to use a Scott connection with two ordinary single phase transformers giving me a two phase-four wire circuit that is electrically 90 degrees out of phase with each other.

Maybe now things start to get interesting...
