Bedini SG and NiMH batteries

Hi all,
I'm new to this forum and new to small electronics in general. I've been teaching myself this stuff for about 6 weeks now. I've built a few systems, and I've just charged up a newer NiMH porter cable 18V battery with my smaller system, got it up to about 20.5V, then I hooked it up to run my other system. It immediately sucked the juice out of it down to 8V, ran for about 5 min, then shut down. Is there something I should know about NiMH batteries and the Bedini SG system? Are they, like LiIon batteries, not able to be properly charged via pulsing? I tried to find some info on youtube and via duckduckgo, but found nothing. Can someone give me the rundown?

Sorry, Nickel Cadmium batteries, not NiMH.....

I realized that the batteries I was attempting to use were Nickel Cadmium batteries. So my question still applies, but to the NiCD batteries. Do they work with radiant energy? Was my second machine just drawing too much due to its bipolar setup? it's an attempt at a half-bipolar-sequential drive system.... probably not working properly. I'm a noob at all of this, so have mercy on me!! hahaha!! I will probably just rewire my bipolar system the way the schematic says to... once I have two paired transistors to do it with. I had 3 TIP35C's to go with the three 36C's that I joinked out of a car amp, but my dumb self fried two of them, so now i only have one pair.... GO ME! Anyway, a reply about my NiCD batteries would be good. I'd like to know if they are OK to use to run a Bedini.... Thanks!!
