bedini ssg questions

greetings , finally figured out the new thred thing does anyone know wot voltage and amperage will charge lead acid batteries efficiently. as you all do ,voltage can be anywhere from 20 to 200 volts at 200 to 300ma.the trouble i keep having is the higher volts seem to fry batterys in stead of charging them.lately ive been loading a single coil to 850 to 1k and cut the revs to a almost stall ,this seems to look after batterys a bit. you guys are great , best reading i done ever,keep up the g ood work,really believe in where you heading

Much depends on the amp hour rating of your battery, you will treat a AA battery much different than you would a 12 amp hour batter as to a 200 amp hour golf cart battery.

For a beginner the best thing to do is to get two brand new batteries then condition them. ( A process that can take several weeks but worth the effort) This will give you a clean start, and let you observe effects of properly charging batteries.

If you suspect you are killing your batteries with high voltage, then you might want to stop using high voltage, until you understand what a normally charged Bedini battery is. I suggest you look at the links I gave you in the last post and examine normal charging ranges for the batteries given. To establish a baseline for what is normal is very good to learn from what others have done with each type of battery.

Learn about the different chemistries of each battery, and why they are different. Read thru the forums here, there is a great wealth of information to be gleaned. But it may take several times of reading, you will understand more, the more you experiment, and thus the more you can get from re-reading what is posted here.

To understand your setup, it is best to post pictures of your setup, and to detail the various parts you have used. It is hard to know what to recommend without knowing what you have.

In addition to the good links Mart has provided,It is also suggested to charge your batteries at about the C-20 discharge rate of your supply battery.So lets assume you have 2- 11.5 AH batteries you dont want to go beyond .575 milli-amps discharge from the supply battery.Hope this helps and happy experimenting .
