Greg, not all spark plugs are made so that it is easy to remove the resistor in them. I destroyed a lot of spark plugs by trying to remove the resistor. So I would rather suggest you to try finding ones that already do not have any resistors in them.
Anyway, today I replaced the ITR8102 optrotrigger with a LTH301-46. It seems that everything is working fine now. I tested the generator engine and it runs ok with the custom ignition and the 2:1 reducer. Here is a video:

At this time there is no booster side attached. I just wanted to see how it runs on gasoline and standard timing (about 15 degree before TDC).
