    Newsflash: Time May Not Exist

Not to mention the question of which way it goes...

    by Tim Folger

No one keeps track of time better than Ferenc Krausz. In his lab at the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics in Garching, Germany, he has clocked the shortest time intervals ever observed. Krausz uses ultraviolet laser pulses to track the absurdly brief quantum leaps of electrons within atoms. The events he probes last for about 100 attoseconds, or 100 quintillionths of a second. For a little perspective, 100 attoseconds is to one second as a second is to 300 million years.

But even Krausz works far from the frontier of time. There is a temporal realm called the Planck scale, where even attoseconds drag by like eons. It marks the edge of known physics, a region where distances and intervals are so short that the very concepts of time and space start to break down. Planck time—the smallest unit of time that has any physical meaning—is 10-43 second, less than a trillionth of a trillionth of an attosecond. Beyond that? Tempus incognito. At least for now.

Efforts to understand time below the Planck scale have led to an exceedingly strange juncture in physics. The problem, in brief, is that time may not exist at the most fundamental level of physical reality. If so, then what is time? And why is it so obviously and tyrannically omnipresent in our own experience? “The meaning of time has become terribly problematic in contemporary physics,” says Simon Saunders, a philosopher of physics at the University of Oxford. “The situation is so uncomfortable that by far the best thing to do is declare oneself an agnostic.”

what this "no time" thing means

I am forever hearing about how our primal ancestors' physical and emotional needs inform modern peoples' psychology, physiology and life choices. However, if time does not exist
(and if it doesn't this puts our perception of space on shakey ground) and as we are made of the stuff of the universe then we must have faculties that allow us to access this timeless and spaceless zone. Assuming that he blieves it is real, I wonder what Ferenc Krausz would say about TRV's relation to the timeless universe. Does the collective unconscious live in this place where time does not exist? Does TRV work because it travels in the land where time does not reign?

      time

      Hi Jonathan,

Welcome to the board, I saw who you were from the post in the renwable energy forum by Kevin.

I believe the collective is certainly timeless.

The whole concept of past, present and future...I think they all happen at the same time and any one thing in any "time" will instantly self adjust everything else.

I think getting the conscious thinking mind, which perceives linear time because it perceives light moving in an entropic fashion, into a busy state, will allow the being-ness of the deeper mind to bring forth the data.

The whole concept of time seems to not be very well known to our science but there is "chronotopology" that tries to get into the inner workings of time itself.

I see time as we perceive it as simply entropy. Light and dissipation being perceived. Depending on the "aetheric density" that the light travels through and that we are inside of...will determine how fast or slow it is going if compared to a benchmark time line. Most dense, light moves through it slower but if we are in the area of more dense aether (higher gravity), our perceptual apparatus is perceiving light slower therefore it of course appears to be traveling at "light speed" - the speed of perception.

If in low dense aether, the it is faster.
      Sincerely,
      Aaron Murakami

        Time is of Essence.
