Policy for PM (Personal Messages)

Is there an accepted policy or standard for PM'ing another member?

I have administrated several forums and some of the larger ones have a policy set in place for sending PM's.

as in you must ask if it is ok to PM BEFORE you PM them.

Just curious, as there are a few people I would like to PM and do not want to offend some one by doing so.

I personally have never heard of any issues with anyone directly PM'ing anyone directly before asking persmission. If there has been issues with this, I wasn't notified. People do have the option of blocking people if they are insulted in some way.

There are some members who have PM disabled so they can't receive the messages from anyone.

You should be able to PM someone directly. I don't think anyone would really have an issue with it.

It is a good thing you have not had issues with PM, I just wanted to make sure what the policy was.
