im a bit new to electricity however i've been reading as much as i can. Im interested in experimenting with nicola tesla's free energy ideas. I would like to build a tesla coil to act as a transmitting tower to power a receiving coil. I would like to power it via some sort of static generating method, by putting a rod in the ground and a collector plate in the air. just curious would such a contraption be a hotbed for lightning strikes, i have a feeling it would be dangerous

Anything sticking in the ground with an aerial is probably saying " Hit me with your best shot "...

If you are going to do that I would definitely use a disconnect from ground method! so when a storm approaches if the disconnects quits you must aquict! As oj's lawyer would say....
