Hi there, I'm Nathan.
A lot of people call me Nate, but as a student of sound, I happen to know the sharp, percussive "t" sound on the end of Nate is actually less pleasent to hear than the warm, long, sonorous "nn" on the end of nathan. It has to do with ADSR envelopes and the fact that words are simply waves of sound pressure which impact not just on the ear, but on the whole predominantly liquid mass of the human body.
Which brings me to what I'm doing here. I'm currently interested in the Bio-Acoustic effect of dissonant soundwaves on the human body, and the link I intuitively realise between external frequency, harmonic resonance and different states of consciousness. I have a sneaky little feeling that sound is going to be key in unlocking the more than 4/5ths of the old grey matter we have and aren't using.
I'm working successfully on an extension of J.W.Keely's theory of Harmonic Resonance, and using discordant resonating tones in stereo fields to induce a sympathetic vibration in the listener of ahz by creating a stereo field with a left frequency of x and a right frequency of y. Let a=x-y and suddenly speakers that can't play back a 4hz sine wave can induce one through harmonic disonnace. And it's a demonstrably physical effect, in that it's spatial, it doesn't work in headphones, I actually need to use nearfield stereo monitors to physically vibrate the air.
I also write quite a bit. I'm six weeks and 20,000 words into a book I'll be happy to talk about when it's finished, I used to make a bit of coin writing music reviews, I work a bit of I.T. magic for a few friends (mostly for the love, some insist on paying.) By far my favorite way of attracting financial abundence as required is to take my guitar downtown and be a memorable part of a whole lot of other people's night out, and they pay me whatever they think I'm worth. Nice work if you can get it
I have no formal qualifications and no education beyond the mail-order Photo Journalism course I did a few years after completeing high school in my twenties. So please, do not, under any circimstances, ever cite me as a credible source. I like to think I'm incredible in every other sense except by academic standards. Which is OK with me, by the way.
So that's me, looking forward to getting to know and trading ideas with all of you. So positive to see so many leaders, thinkers and doers gathered in one place online, it's fantastic.
Namaste,
nathan.
edit: no internet, no TV, no radio at home. (that's where the magic happens.) I'm online every few days, feel free to PM me a link if I miss any posts you wanted me to read.
