Hi everyone. I built my 48 volt system with 1.5 KW of panels and a 1 KW wind turbine (Soma) with 24 2.2 Volt Sonnenschein batteries a few years ago. Works very well but I need to run my generator when there is no wind or sun like this time of the year although in total it was only run for 40 hours last year just to top up the batteries. Four people in the house (two teenagers) a wide screen LCD TV fridge, freezer, three computers etc all run no problem on this system which is not grid connected. In Summer our batteries go to float quite often. The entire system is probably worth about $60K now but with govt rebates cost only about $25K.
