I think that's a wonderful idea and I congratulate you for taking the first step to achieving your dreams.

I think you won't have any problems with the self development niche. People are always interested in finding ways to make their lives happy or to reach happiness. Hence, try it out. Try starting a blog with your experiences first and how you were able to make yourself happy or improve in this and that. Then, when you get more readers, you can start with helping people out on a personal level. You could set up a twitter account to have people contact you and ask questions that you'll write about next.
