you can make nano-magnetite, electrolytically. if you decide to melt it with a standard torch, rather than an induction furnace, you probably want to be careful with your air to fuel ratio. Also, I seem to recall them using barium ferrate for cores of things. I do not believe it is a true ferrate (Fe2O4-2), but what the heck? : )

Tie a few big magnets to a rope and go for a walk on a gold mine heap pulling the magnet behind you.
Or just go for a walk in the country side .
