Hello All,
Take it easy on my I'm a noob, but I wanted to pose a
question on a this forum because I felt like this would be the best way to gain
knowledge of the subject.
I live in Houston Texas.* It gets really hot for a very long
season and I have a hair brain idea to save money and go be a little green.* I
would like to turn my rotating house vents into energy generators.* I figured
since the heat in the attic move the vent due to the differences in temperature
that I could probably connect an alternator to it.* I would then send the
electricity to a battery bank where I would ultimately convert and send to the
house.
Can this be done?* Should I do it?* Does the heat build up
enough to even push the vent hard enough?
If this does work I would save money on my electricity bill
and cool off the house better during 2/3 of the year (Texas is so hot)
Let me know what you think and thanks for giving my thoughts

I've got some Lomanco turbine vents (best brand I was told) I installed but I don't think you could get much power from them as they need to be very free turning. You might get enough from a tiny generator to charge some cell phones but in the real world I just don't think it would be worth it. There are some roof mounted concealable generators I've seen that use something like a turbine rather than a propeller which can generate good power if you have wind in the area. It's been awhile since I've seen info on those so sorry I can't point you to them at the moment.

This makes it look possible. What do you think? And I'm going to look into concealable wind turbine generators. I bet the homeowners association wouldn't notice two or three roof vent look-a-likes that are actually generators.
