I think you've blown this whole permanent magnet motor concept wide open. What you've shown in this thread and the videos seems obvious in retrospect--how could we have not seen it? It also underscores how we've been lied to by "the powers that be" and what passes for science these days with regard to magnets and what they can and cannot do. Assuming this works (and there is little doubt in my mind that it will) the game is over with respect to power generation. Many thanks to you for sharing this and also to your father for sharing his knowledge with you.

The reason I'm doing a small build is that I want something I can leave running on a coffee table or a bookshelf. An aside: When you first came up with this moving stator design I immediately thought of a record turntable tone arm arrangement moving up and down but now I see that the back and forth movement is a much better one. Again, thanks for sharing all this info. It's very much appreciated.

Yes, I can see that a small replication would be quite the conversation piece to have on a coffee table. Actually, I have been filming my videos on my dining room table, so that's a prominent display when folks drop by. It's a good thing my wife doesn't see any problem with me doing things this way. I highly recommend that everyone get their spouse and children involved in this project. It will be a life and learning experience they will never forget.

Hi folks,

Video #7 is currently about 90% uploaded. I had hoped to include the segmment about the stator arm in video #7, but am still working on that part, so decided to upload another segment I already had completed. Video #7 shows some magnet power demonstrations that I think you will find interesting, and which make for some lively video. Video #6 wasn't very lively, but it seems that it was well received in spite of the still image commentary.

I have been swamped with YouTube e-mails concerning people who have subscribed to my video channel, so I guess that's a good sign. Lots of appreciative comments too, and just a couple of hard core naysayers who say that it can't possibly be real. I don't think they will be around very long, unless they begin to see the light and take an interest in what's going on.

Video update

Hi folks,

I am currently uploading video #8, which is now about 80% completed. This video starts off with a magnet power demonstration, and then goes on to introduce my stator arm assembly and describe its various parts. In the next video I will be demonstrating how the arm functions when used both as a stationary fixture and a MOSTAT arcing arm.

After completing video #9, I'll be taking a break to complete my tracking mechanisms. The first build of the tracking system will probably seem a bit crude, but I think it will hold up long enough to show some results, and I do think those results will be on the positive side.

Hi Rick,

I'm not sure how you are going to do you moving stator, but I have come up with a good design which on paper has some promising aspects of using both attraction and repulsion to aid in overcoming the work needed to operate the moving of the stator. I call it the rotating 90 degree offset stator. This simply is another wheel at the rim of the rotor at 90 degrees and is connected by belt to another wheel of different ratio at the center of the rotor wheel. As the rotor turns it also turns the stator wheel and passes the stator mag between two rotor mags giving repulsion on the rotor mag which has just passed and attracting the rotor mag which is just coming,"double slice of the cake The rotor mags are set up individually so as the spacings are such as to acomodate the passing of the stator mag. I hope I have explained myself as and when I will post a simple drawing. Mags arrived this morning, so full steam ahead or I should say full rotors ahead

If I have a non-magnetic wheel can I put a magnetic plate on the side that will have the magnets and mount the plate to the non-magnetic wheel?

Video update

Last night I actually completed and uploaded 4 new videos (#9 through #12). These fully explain the stator arm when used in a stationary mode, and how the magnetic interactions actually work to provide motive thrust to the rotor. Also, precise measurements and angles are given.

There have been many people subscribing to my video channel each day, so there definitely is a lot of interest out there. Most comments have been respectful and appreciative too. There have been just a few naysayers who either say it can't work (and give no reason why), or claim that all of the motive thrust is coming from my hands. I wonder how they will explain the stator arm videos?

Anyways, I'm going to take a break from these videos to advance my build by adding the flywheel and tracking mechanism. I have all the materials and know exactly how I will be doing it. Will post replication photos as I go along.

Yes, of course that can be done. However, is the wheel aluminum? Throw it back to the scrap metal bin if it is, and find yourself a steel rim wheel.

Hi Mike,

I think I mentioned the basics of my method back in post #71. Any method that uses a MOSTAT is definitely the way to go, as you can see from the powerful thrust and rapid accelleration demonstrated in my videos. It's the cat's meow that will make a useful magnetic motor possible. Good luck with your build, and keep us posted on it.

Thanks, I'm glad you have enjoyed the videos, in spite of the audio and video being a little out of sync towards the tail end, with audio lagging the video by 2 to 3 seconds. The originals aren't like that, but something happens when YouTube processes them. No big deal, I guess, but too bad they get skewed.

I was wondering if you could use only 1 magnet for the first set or possibly try to put a piece of aluminum under the first or even first 2 sets of magnets. Or possibly put a magnet under the rim to try and shrink or bend the field. Or what if that section of the rim was removed. But please dont cut up your rim!

Just some ideas I had. Looks great so far, cant wait to see it after the rail is set up!

Hi Mark,

I did experiment with the ideas you are suggesting, as follows:

1. Tried removing one of the magnets in the lead magnet stack of the second group.
2. Tried using a round 3/8" neo magnet at that position.
3. Tried using a smaller round neo magnet at that position.
4. Tried using a ceramic magnet at that position.
5. Tried placing steel on top of the magnet.
6. Tried placing stainless steel on top.
7. Tried placing copper on top.
8. Tried placing brass on top.
9. Tried placing aluminum on top.
10. Tried copper, brass, ss, and aluminum underneath the magnet.
11. Tried placing aluminum underneath.
12. Tried the same reduction methods also with the second magnet.

Results: This, of course, only applies if all the groups have same poles facing upwards on the rim. That is why you run into the braking effect at the lead magnet of the second group, and at each successive group. While this does reduce the braking effect sufficiently enough to overcome that problem as each group approaches the stator magnet, it also dramatically reduced the repulsive effect just past the point of maximum repulsion (equalibrium), which is needed for rotational thrust. So, these methods detract from the potential torque and rpm that could otherwise be developed using better methods. If you watch my video #12 ( YouTube - "Rick's Pipe Dream" Magnetic Motor - Generator, Video #12 ) you will see a suggestion for a means of allowing a mounted stator magnet to rise as each group comes near to the stator magnet, and then fall back to the previous level, and this would be far preferred if using magnet groups with same polarity. This method will definitely work, but isn't the method I will be pursuing. Instead, I will be using four groups of alternating polarity (first group= south up, second group north up, etc. This is demonstrated with a MOSTAT (moving stator magnet) in video #5. Watch this entire video carefully, and the power of using this concept will become quite apparent. This method takes full advantage of all the magnetic forces of attraction and repulsion that are encountered, and allows the wheel to quickly accellerate and develop maximum torque and rpm. Definitely the way to go, I assure you.

Thanks, W. Glad you like it. Are you considering building this? I hope so, as I would like to see as many replicators as possible. The advantages of many people with the same build is rather obvious, as I'm sure you would agree - what works for one will work for all.

If you look at the construction steps, you will see that there is nothing difficult aboult building this. I intentionally kept it very simple, so that anyone with just basic mechanical knowledge and a few tools can build, assemble, and get this working with no difficulty whatsoever. A third grader could easily build this (with parental guidance concerning power tool usage and safe magnet handling, of course). And it's a great idea to get the whole family involved. So please go for it. You won't be disappointed, I assure you.

Update

Worked some on preparing my wheel for addition of the tracking system, and completed video #13, which I am presently uploading, and about 80% completed. This video shows how I readjust the stator arm angles for use with the stator magnet positioned across the wheel rim. I then demonstarte how the magnet can be pivoted back and forth, in a horizontal plane, across the rotor magnet groups to achieve continuous rotation. This setup uses 4 rotor magnet groups with all north poles facing up. When you see me moving the stator arm, keep in mind that I am probably moving the stator more than it needs to move. Just one inch of movement is the max requirement, and rotation will actually continue with a half inch or less of movement. While this is not my preferred arrangement, it does work well enough that it does appear to be worth pursuing. My preferred arrangement will be shown and demonstrated in the next video, whenever I find time to make it.

Edit: I finally have the audio and video synchronized, thank goodness!

Wow Rick it sounds like you've done some pretty thorough testing! I have watched all your videos and my ideas were suggested to help you to try and minimize the stator movement. I know your aware that the less the stator needs to move the less friction will come into play.

I'm also wondering if you've tried using twin stator magnets like Mylow has and also about multiple stator arms. I'm sure you've thought about both. Do you think it would be better to use 3, 4 or even 5 stator setups. Ive also thought about putting the magnets inside the 2 rims edges. So many things to test!

I hope I'm not asking too many questions, I need to get starting on my own setup so I can help instead of hinder your progress.
